Family Engagement in Literacy: Family Engagement in Reaching and Engaging Reluctant Readers at School and at Home By Laurie Elish-Piper
Document: Column
Introductory Paragraph: Reading is a foundational skill that shapes children’s academic development. However, some children are reluctant readers, which can impede their progress as literacy learners and students. Encouraging children to embrace reading, particularly those who are reluctant readers, requires patience, understanding, consistency, and creativity. This column will provide ideas teachers and families can use to get reluctant readers in the elementary grades more interested in reading.
