Authors, Books, and Beyond: A Conversation with Amy Alznauer About Her Three Picturebook Biographies By Amina Chaudhri
Document: Column
Introductory Paragraph: A self-taught mathematician who, as a child in southern India, pondered questions about infinity while working out solutions on slate with chalk and eventually made his way to Cambridge University; a reclusive girl who ordered peacocks through the mail, saw beauty in strangeness, and became a revered American author; and a pair of brothers who grew up in Maoist China, painting for propaganda and also for themselves, in a unique and revolutionary style—these are the subjects of Amy Alznauer’s biographies. Together and separately, her books invite readers to question the ways we have been taught to think and to view life from different angles and, in doing so, to open ourselves up to creative possibilities. I had the most enjoyable and informative hour of conversation with Amy about her work and process. Read more about Amy Alznauer at https://www.amyalz.com.
