Legacy Voices: Insights from Dr. Gay Ivey
By Steven L. Layne and Faith Kim

Document: Column

Introductory Paragraph:  Recently, we had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Gay Ivey. Dr. Ivey has been researching and writing about children’s and young adults’ reading motivations and engagement, along with the contexts that support them, for many years. She is presently most interested in the social, emotional, and intellectual growth that students experience when they read and talk about books that matter to them. She is a Past President of the Literacy Research Association, an elected member of the Reading Hall of Fame, and a recipient of the P. David Pearson Scholarly Influence Award. She can be reached at [email protected].
