International Reading Association Choice Booklists

Each year, thousands of children, young adults, teachers, and librarians around the United States select their favorite recently published books for the ?Choices? booklists. These lists are used in classrooms, libraries, and homes to help young readers find books they will enjoy. Lists of titles and authors of Choices selections for the current year are made available in April, just before the Association?s annual convention. Complete, annotated lists are published in fall editions of IRA journals. Check individual Choices programs for Children, Teachers, Young Adults.

Tips for Reading with Your Children

Reading aloud to children has been found to be one of the most effective ways parents can work with their children to better prepare them before they come to school and to accelerate their learning as they progress through the grades. The Minnesota Humanities Commission Family Literacy Initiatives has put together "Tips for Reading With You Children" in 26 different languages. This site also has links to other Bilingual Family Literacy Initiatives that "promote the importance of books and reading as the entryway to academic excellence."

Web-Enhanced Family Literacy

A new resource is available for parents! This website features a Parent Literacy Program that offers pod casts about literacy and other educational issues.
