August 1, 2008: Illinois Title I Association grant applications are due. The ITA Grant Program is for ITA Members to promote literacy development in the school and the community. Grant Application and Guidelines are available online. Grant recipients wil be notified by September 15, 2008.

August 6, 2008: Southern Illinois Reading Council will present its annual Mini-Conference and a 1/2 Price Blue Ribbon Book Fair from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at John A. Logan College, 700 Logan College Road, Carterville, Illinois. Early registration is $15 for SIRC Members and $20 Non-Members before July 15, 2008.

August 7, 2008: Northern Illinois Reading Council will hold a Member Appreciation Event Igniting Writing for ISAT from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Kishwaukee College Conference Center, 21193 Malta Road, Malta, Illinois. Registration and check-in begin at 8:30 AM. Presenters include Pam Farris, Donna Werderich and Candace Fleming. This workshop and lunch is free for NIRC members. August 14, 2008: Mississippi Valley Reading Council will hold a Books, Like Wine, Get Better with Age event from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Collver Family Winery, 2 Rooster Way, Barry, Illinois.

August 16, 2008: Northwestern Illinois Reading Council will host "Engage! Excite! Ignite! Back-to-School Event" starting at 9:00 AM at the Staples in Freeport, Illinois. This is a teacher appreciation day and the first 200 teachers will receive free gifts. From 10:00 to 11:00 AM, NWIRC will meet at Manny's Four for cold drinks, prizes, and a presentation by Boomer Crotty entitled "25 Books that have Changed Children into Readers." At 11:00 AM, NWIRC will head to Book World to shop for books with a 20% discount for educators and teachers will also receive a free gift.

October 14, 2008: Northern Illinois Reading Council will host a Teachers as Readers Book Discussion from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at three locations: Borders in Rockford, Illinois, Conver Square in Oregon, Illinois, and Kishwaukee College in Creston/DeKalb. The fall book is On Understanding by Ellin Keene. Participants purchase and read the book on their own, then meet together for discussion. NIRC members will receive a $10 gift card for attending a TAR session. In February, IRA will host Multiple, Pathways to Literacy in Phoenix, Arizona. IRA will host Reading, Writing, and Conversations from May 3-7, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. April 18, 2009: East Central-EIU Reading Council will participate in the "Leaders As Readers" at the Cross County Mall in Mattoon, Illinois.

April 18, 2009: Vermilion Valley Reading Council will host an event Laugh(ture) and Literature Across the Curriculum with Boomer Crotty at 1:00 PM at the Danville Public Library, 319 N. Vermilion, Danville, Illinois.

April 20, 2009: Fox Valley Reading Council will host a Spring Conference "Excite - New Books and Giveways" with Peggy Sherman from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. More information will be available soon.

April 21, 2009: Northern Illinois Reading Council will host a Teachers as Readers Book Discussion from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at three locations: Borders in Rockford, Illinois, Conver Square in Oregon, Illinois, and Kishwaukee College in Creston/DeKalb. Participants purchase and read the book on their own, then meet together for discussion. NIRC members will receive a $10 gift card for attending a TAR session. In order to receive a gift card you must RSVP by the day before the TAR meeting to Betsy Hoelting for the Borders in Rockford, Mary Gardner for the Conver Square in Oregon, and Linda Tyrrell or Kim McKenna for Kishwaukee College in DeKalb/Creston.  More information will be available soon.
